About SSA

Sydney Sportsfishing Adventures Owner and guide, Dan Selby started Sydney Sportfishing Adventures in late 2010. He wanted to work in the fishing industry where he was actually on the water most days, becoming a fishing guide was a logical solution. His aim is to help clients improve their catches by advancing their knowledge and angling techniques on individual target species like the mighty Mulloway (Jewfish), Kingfish, Bream, Flathead, Estuary Perch and Bass. In this time Dan has helped thousands achieve their goals and personal bests’ whilst guiding.

Sydney Sportfishing Adventures is a one man operation based at Spencer NSW on the lower tidal reaches of the Hawkesbury River. The 5.4 meter, plate aluminium Centre console vessel ‘Me & Jew II’ is road transported on a trailer and allows your guide Dan to follow the best fishing action around the extensive waters of Sydney Harbour and the Hawkesbury River through the four seasons of the year. Clients can expect a fun, educational experience where actual fishing techniques are taught to benefit clients in their own personal fishing exploits, not just on charter.

Dan specialises in light tackle lure casting, trolling, down rigging and live baiting to catch trophy fish in Sydney’s busy water ways. A day on the water can help you improve casting, learn lure retrieval techniques, how to catch live baits, which knots to tie and when to use them, how to read a depth sounder/fish finder, where to find fish/ bait, how to use a down rigger and the ever crucial how to fight and land big fish on light tackle.

Fishing is fun for everyone, so whether your 8 or 80, beginner or experienced, Dan can help you learn how to pull in the big ones!
SSA operates full (8hrs) and half day (5hrs) fishing charters 7 days a week on the Hawkesbury river and 6hr Sydney harbour trips Monday to Friday throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn each year.

Minimum age is 6 years olds with no maximum age limit.
How can I pay?

Cash payments on the day are accepted in certain circumstances where a last minute booking is taken or to pay the remaining balance of your 50% deposit.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Because we operate in the estuaries it is rare to have to cancel charters due to large swells etc. on the odd occasion rain and wind will be the determining factor for postponing or cancelling a charter as it can make it quite uncomfortable in an open vessel. Dan will fish in most weather, but…..

If the weather conditions are against us, postponing the trip to the next suitable date for both the client and the guide is OK. In circumstances where you are travelling from interstate or international destinations a refund can be arranged. If you are concerned please call Dan on 0405 196 253 to discuss.

What time do we start?
Start times vary throughout the year. Most trips start at first light which in the summer months is 5 – 6 am and winter months 7 – 8 am.
