G’day fishos,
The Hawkesbury river produced great results for our clients before this curent flood event in early june 2024. As things are clearing up i’ve been reflecting on the great fishing we had over Autumn. Plenty of meter plus Mulloway were taken by lure and live bait with some standout fish falling for the live baits. The best of which was captured by regular Peter Penprase at a whopping 1.51m long! see pic attached.
Plenty of other great fish were caught too, with the Bream really firing up throughout Autumn taking all manner of lures, curly tail grubs being the pick of the profiles for regularly producing results. A smear of scent is always a welcome addition, getting a few more bites when they slow down or are short striking lures. I like to use S factor and Procure scents.
Estuary perch showed in good numbers in the middle reaches and some amazing sessions were had on cricket scores of fish. The average size is good again this season with the chance of some 50cm plus models after this flood water clears a little and the schools start to form up and hold in the bigger back eddies.
Flathead have remained abundant and are the main stay of most catches whether fishing lures, live or dead baits. One session yeilded a hot bite of six trophy sized flathead in a short period of time whilst live baiting for Mulloway, the best of which meased 81cm and was promptly returned to the water as per NSW DPI Fisheries regulations.
I will be offering gentlemans hour start times this winter with 8am start times to let the sun warm things up a little before we get motoring to our spots, this will allow us more time comfortably fishing through the middle of the day when the westerly winds drop and it glasses off the surface of the water.
