Hi Guys,

It’s been a while between blogs, sorry for that ive been busy guiding, in between the windy, wet weather patterns we have experienced over winter and also moving house to Spencer on the banks of the Hawkesbury river, It’s been nothing short of challenging but the result is a more convenient location for my line of work, with the biggest bennefit cutting the daily commute to  around half an hour each way when doing Hawkesbury trips from Autumn through to Spring targeting Mulloway with you guys.

Persistance mixed with good techniques and an experienced guide can be the difference between catching or not. Mark with his PB on the very last cast!

Tom White with the biggest Mulloway on soft plastic on my vessel from this past winter. An impressive fish at 118cm released after a few pics.

Fishing was red hot leading into winter and continued after the decent fresh we got in June. The weather was the biggest factor this winter past as low after low battered the east coast bringing plenty of wind and rain and reducing our days on the water due to post ponements. Hopefully it’s out of the way now and we can get stuck back into some sensational spring and summer sessions.

The end of Autumn was very kind to us with plenty of meter plus Mulloway!

One of the best Mulloway bites i've experienced with clients with three over the meter mark this one the best @ 125cm, released!

I will still be guiding on Sydney harbour throughout the warmer months when the Kingfish and other pelagic species like Salmon, Tailor and Bonito are having a feeding frenzy on the abundant bait the harbour houses each season. On a daily basis it can pay to be quite flexible with target species and techniques when all this surface feeding action starts to happen, this is great for you guys as it keeps things interesting. I like to employ micro jigs, spoons, soft plastics, poppers or stick baits to find out what is working on the day, this is a great way for clients to learn a variety of lure retrievs in a short period of time as we switch techniques to find which is working best for that species of fish we have encountered.

One of the best parts of my job is creating lasting memories like this for my clients.

Alternately a much more releaxed approach to targeting Kingfish this spring will be live baiting either Squid or Yakkas on the down rigger around prominent structures, they are perfect tours for kids through to grandparents and you generally get to see a great deal of the harbour and it’s sights as we hunt around for our quarry the mighty Yellowtail Kingfish!

Kingfish fish hard look stunning and taste great cooked or served as sashimi.

Early season can see some big harbour hoodlums turn up, and boy do they put up a fight.

Other great spring and summer options include targeting Estuary Perch using soft plastics

Catch and release only for EPs. They can be found in decent schools through spring and are great sport on light spin tackle. Come and experience why these are one of Dan's favourite fish to target.

Casting for Bream using soft plastics

There are many ways to target bream but none more effective than soft plastics for big blue nose bruisers like this one.

Arrow and Southern Calamari Squid using Jigs

Sydney is a great squid fishery, hardest part is deciding to use it for bait or eat it!?

I love a challenge, so if you have a particular species or technique you would like to master drop me line to find out if i can help you achieve your goals.

Check out this massive hawkesbury Blue nose bream which took a live bait aimed at a Mulloway. It measured 51cm and was safely released by client James and his Dad.

Finally, I’m in the design process of uprading my vessel ‘Me & Jew’ to a new internal layout including a center console. It’s well overdue and a welcome addition, it will transform the access around the whole cockpit, freeing up the back portion of the deck where the current pedistal seats are thus allowing the easy use of both down riggers this coming summer when targeting kings and access to the rear rod holders when live baiting Mulloway and the big hook up comes along. You guys will be the big benneficiaries here with the unimpeded deck space to tame that fish of a life time! Stay tuned for the next blog when this will be all finalised, finished and functional.
