Warmer than average water temps have the Yellow tail Kingfish starting to fire up for our action packed charters on Pittwater and Sydney harbour. This will only get better over the next 5 months as the water temps continue to rise and make conditions more favourable for the fish and us anglers.
During a morning charter you can learn the basics of finding/ catching live squid and yakkas(baitfish) plus rigging them up correctly, How to down rig live and dead baits, where to locate kingfish/ fish behaviour, lure fishing techniques, What lures/ jigs and where to use them, casting techniques and acuracy, how to use your sounder/ fish finder.
These fish are one of the toughest opponents once hooked and will test everything you have from your boat handling skills to the angler themselves and their ability to handle the strong drag pressures and reasonably heavy spin tackle needed to extract a big angry Kingy away from its structure, be it a wreck, a marker bouy or your own boat!
I have helped many clients achieve their goals of learning the fundamentals for capturing their first Sydney Kingfish or that new PB with some impressive inshore Kingfish. I’m blessed to have encountered some great battles in Sydney harbour and Pittwater with clients regularly getting blown away and reefed by unstoppable fish but also landing some top catches up to 118cm and 13kg.
This season is shaping up to be great so don’t miss the early run of big kings as we lead up to the years end.
